First Majors Championship series will begin this fall, 2015

Valve has posted details as well as sign up registration for their upcoming Majors Championship series. There will be four Majors tournaments being hosted, leading up to one huge finale dubbed The International. There will be Open Qualifiers starting October 6-9 for any team that wishes to register, can so do now. Qualifier rounds will determine who goes to Regionals and then on to compete at one of the four Majors Championship events. Some teams will outright be invited to Regionals, bypassing the entry phase. The first Major Championship event will be in Europe, sometime in November, details will be posted at a later date.

Valve recently made headlines with its $18 Million Dollar prize pool for its International tournament this year. According to Fortune, Dota 2 has roughly 125 million active users around the world. The Majors Championship series looks to expand on what already is a massive eSports arena. One cannot help but be marveled at Dota’s continued success, and while many studios like Hi-Rez and Motiga have adopted Dota’s model, their financial numbers are laughable compared to the fervent outpouring for this classic MOBA. The buildup to The Internationals 2016 should be an impressive one to follow.
