Bethesda released alpha footage today on their anticipated upcoming first person shooter Doom (2016). The footage shows off the speed and fluidity of combat in a multiplayer match. It also gives a taste of some of the new visceral weapons including the new “demon rune”; which turns the player into a hellish creature with jump jets and shoulder mounted RPGs. Other tricks seen in the video are new deployabled portals and quick ledge grabs for scaling hard to reach platforms.

The thrill of straightforward deathmatch carnage was fervent in 90s era with Doom and Quake leading the way.  Will Doom recapture gamers attention as it did nearly two decades ago? Judging by Wolfenstein: The New Order, it certainly melded many of the things that made Castle Wolfenstein great and expanded on every facet of the sequel. We look forward to see what iD is cooking up in this entry in the series, when it releases in the spring of 2016.
